Researching My Texas Roots

I've always been interested in genealogy and want to compile all the information I have gathered into a family history book. I do photo restoration work and want to gather and preserve all those old photos that have been tucked away in the grandparents trunks for so long. I think this would be a great legacy to leave for my children and grandchildren. Would love to hear how others have gone about setting up something like this. I'm researching the surnames of Odam, Mabery, Anderson, Peoples, Ashenbach, Beckhusen, Henderson, and Ables.
